Recording memos on a mission in Uzbin
From Liisa, SMSgt Temple’s wife: Rex is out on a mission for a few days but he was honored to be able to reach readers beyond his blog today with a guest column about the importance of education in Afghanistan and his school supplies drive for Afghan children; the column was published in The Plain Dealer, a Cleveland, OH based newspaper.
Afghanistan: Winning hearts and minds with school supplies by Senior Master Sgt. Rex Temple
We were contacted back in early August about this opportunity as the newspaper’s Editorial Page Editor Elizabeth Sullivan was looking for someone who could write a column for the paper from the military perspective for the 9/11 anniversary. Rex was very humbled to have his words appear as part of this anniversary and accepted the opportunity immediately only asking that his school supplies project would also be worked into the presentation.
Our warmest thanks to Ms. Sullivan for this opportunity to reach the readers of The Plain Dealer.

Dear Rex,
Trying to catch up on all your notes. You sure do a good job writing. Been busy with our County Fair and then the kids were here for Uncle Clark’s 70th birthday. We did a clam bake. Weather has been getting cooler here at night. Hate to think it is fall when we really didn’t have much of a summer.
Well you take care and we are always praying for all the troops safety. Love Aunt Carole
