So I am posting this link to an article from the McClatchy newspapers about the deadly ambush in the area where Rex’s serves. Reporter Jonathan S. Landay was with the Marines when this all happened. According to the article, these four Marines were assigned as trainers to the Afghan National Army (just like Rex).
ANJGAL, Afghanistan — We walked into a trap, a killing zone of relentless gunfire and rocket barrages from Afghan insurgents hidden in the mountainsides and in a fortress-like village where women and children were replenishing their ammunition.

One of the KIA was a Navy Corpsman, HM3 Layton.
He was the “Marine” tending to a wounded Marine when both were killed.
Just wanted to set the record straight.
